Government introduces legislation for CPP expansion
On October 6, 2016, the Federal government introduced legislation for a stronger Canada Pension Plan and a more secure retirement for Canadians, that will provide a more generous public pension.
Worker deemed employee, not independent contractor
In a recent decision, the Ontario Labour Relations Board had to decide whether a worker was an employee, and not an independent contractor, as under the Employment Standards Act, 2000. This issue came about on appeal, after an Employment Standards Officer had ordered an organization to pay a worker overtime and vacation pay.
Salary increases expected to stay flat in 2017
According to Aon Hewitt’s Survey, because of Canadian and global economic uncertainty, Canadian employers are not expecting to make higher increases to compensation budgets for 2017.
