In a previous post, I commented that the Industry, Science and Technology Committee made relatively few amendments to Bill C-27, the Electronic Commerce Protection Act (ECPA). Now, McCarthy Tétreault has analyzed the Committee’s changes, and concludes that, from its perspective, some but not all of the most troublesome aspects of the Bill have been amended. Whether the changes to ECPA are major or minor, now that the Bill is in third reading, no more substantive changes can be expected. If your business relies on email for sales and marketing, it behooves you to acquaint yourself with ECPA and understand how it might affect you.
