A workspace by the CAI to assist with Bill 64 compliance

In the context of the adoption of the Act to Modernize Legislative Provisions respecting the Protection of Personal Information (“Bill 64”) on September 22, 2021, the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (“CAI”) has announced the creation of a workspace dedicated to Bill 64 compliance, in which it will publish various support and awareness tools.

Facebook to pay for false or misleading advertising to the public

The general prohibition on false or misleading advertising under the Competition Act contains two adjudicative regimes, criminal (subsection 52(1)) and civil (subsection 74.01(1)(a)), that can be used to address the same conduct – the making of a materially false or misleading representation to the public for the purpose of promoting one’s product or business interest.

Workplace data theft – Protect your company with best practices

The Capital One Data Breach has been big news lately, and for good reason. It’s a big deal. This breach compromised the data of over 100 million Capital One customers. Instead of a shadowy overseas hacker or a creepy crawler from the dark web, the hacker was a former employee of the cloud hosting company through which Capital One stored their data.
