Canadian unretirement

With recent changes to Canada’s old age security pension, Canadians and retirement have been in the spotlight. According to Scotiabank’s annual investment poll, over 30 percent of Canadians plan to retire later, up from 27 percent in 2011. It’s not news that Canadians are retiring later than they did a decade ago, but why?

Pretty hazards: the accessible built environment

A photo of a beautifully designed stairway with an integrated accessibility ramp recently caught my eye. It is a fine example of a creative and attractive solution to a problem we are seeing more and more. Unfortunately, I think the stair is actually a hazard for anyone who uses it, not just persons with disabilities!
