Men’s Day was discriminatory and led to retaliation
An employee complained to the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal that she was terminated after filing an internal grievance with her employer who excluded female employees from a customer appreciation day that was for men only. The employer did not think that a gender-exclusive event like Men’s Day was inappropriate. The Tribunal disagreed.
Employer pays price for assumptions about employee disability
The Canadian Human Rights Tribunal found that an employer discriminated against an employee on the ground of disability when it alleged that the employee was making up the disability and requesting time off work under false pretences.
Knee-jerk reaction to accommodation request costly
The British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal just held that an employee was discriminated against on the ground of physical disability after an employer refused to return her to work even though her doctor cleared her to go back on three conditions that required some accommodation.
