Limiting the notice period in termination clause to “convert statutory floor into a ceiling”
In interpreting the termination clause of a worker’s employment contract, the Ontario Court of Appeal clarified that employers wishing to limit the notice period to the statutory minimum requirement should draft the termination clause using language that “converts the statutory floor into a ceiling.”
Changes to police record checks to come into force
Effective November 1, 2018, Ontario’s Police Record Checks Reform Act to eliminate unnecessary barriers to employment, education and volunteer opportunities resulting from the inappropriate release of non-conviction or mental health information disclosed during a police record check comes into effect.
