Enhanced compassionate care benefits

The federal government is proposing to increase financial support for individuals taking care of sick family members with a risk of dying within 26 weeks by enhancing the compassionate care (EI) benefits provided through the Employment Insurance program.

The Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Small Claims Court concluded that, when an employee returned from maternity leave and was not reinstated to her original position with the same hours and salary, this constituted constructive dismissal and discrimination.
