Q: We are a company located in Alberta. We have an employee who has been with us for 5.3 years, and are looking to lay this employee off. This employee has a senior role in our company. The company has decided to give a working notice instead of a lieu payment. Should the employee choose not to work the notice period provided by the employer, does this become a termination then? Or are we required to pay this notice period out to the employee?
