Employers subject to PIPEDA should inform employees of video surveillance

An individual complained that her former employer had installed video surveillance cameras pointed toward her work area without informing her of the installation, or of the purpose for which the footage would be used.

Q: If a former employee’s final pay included a large overpayment for vacation pay, does the employer have any recourse? It was a clerical error. Please note the employees that are affected are in Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario.

ESA and OHS 2016–17 targeted blitzes

From May 2, 2016, to March 31, 2017, workplaces such as food services, retail stores, construction sites and mines will be investigated for potential violations of Ontario’s employment standards and occupational health and safety laws.
