AODA compliance update: January 1, 2014 requirements
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act is a continuously evolving legislation with staggered compliance deadlines. Excessive absence was not a result of disability but culpable absenteeism
Following a seven-year hearing, an Ontario labour arbitrator just found that an employer’s response of termination for an employee’s significant absences without notifications due to mood problems and inability to deal with stress was not excessive. The employee did not qualify as having a mental health disability.
Current and upcoming minimum wage
The earnings of Albertans will rise September 1, 2013, when the province increases minimum wage by approximately 20 cents per hour.
