It’s been almost six months since the COVID-19 pandemic hit Ontario. During this time the government has introduced a number of new income support programs and new laws. There was no play book for handling this crisis.
Canada Emergency Response Benefit CERB
On June 10, 2020, the federal government tabled Bill C-17, An Act respecting additional COVID-19 measures that, if enacted, would provide or further COVID-19 financial relief measures.
On June 16, 2020, the federal government announced that it is extending the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) eligibility period by eight weeks for recipients who can’t yet go back to work as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
