On October 23, 2018, the Conservative Ontario government tabled Bill 47, Making Ontario Open for Business Act, 2018 to repeal certain amendments made by the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017 (introduced as Bill 148) that implemented reforms and more job protections under the Employment Standards Act and Labour Relations Act.

Court upholds ESA-only termination clause despite silence on benefits
Employers struggling with termination clauses should take note of the recent Ontario Superior Court of Justice decision upholding such a clause in an employment contract that limited entitlements to the statutory minimums available under the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA), but which did not make explicit reference to the continuation of benefits during the statutory notice period.
