Current & upcoming minimum wage

There is more than one minimum hourly wage for Ontario employees. The current minimum hourly wage for employees in general employment is $11.40 an hour. The next minimum wage increase is scheduled for October 1, 2017.

The Court of Appeal for Ontario had to recently address whether the terms of an employee’s employment contract could be implied because of industry practice.

Sexualized and gender-based dress codes “not on the menu” for the OHRC

On March 8, 2017, the Ontario Human Rights Commission released a new report, Not on the menu: OHRC inquiry report on sexualized and gender-based dress codes in restaurants, that outlines commitments made by many of Ontario’s largest and most well-known restaurant chains to eliminate discriminatory dress codes for restaurant staff.
