Effective March 1, 2013, certain provisions of the Jobs, Growth and Long-term Prosperity Act came into force to deal with the end of the production of Social Insurance Number (SIN) cards and the transfer of SIN cards and the Social Insurance Register (SIR) from the Employment Insurance Act to the Department of Human Resources and Skills Development Act.
Old Age Security pension changes in force
Effective March 1, 2013, certain sections of the Jobs, Growth and Long-term Prosperity Act came into force amending the Old Age Security Act. The changes involve automatically enrolling eligible persons for Old Age Security pensions, allowing eligible persons to decline a waiver of the requirement for an application, and permitting pensioners to request cancellation of a pension after it has commenced.
Leaves to help families under ESA introduced
On March 5, 2013, the Ontario government introduced Bill 21, Employment Standards Amendment Act (Leaves to Help Families), 2013, to create the following three statutory leaves of absence under the Employment Standards Act.
