2014 compensation forecast: Salary budgets projected to hold steady or go lower

Annual projections of pay increases for 2014 by Hay Group, WorldatWork, Mercer, Morneau Shepell, Aon Hewitt, Towers Watson, the Quebec Employers Council and the Conference Board of Canada are all published. (Updated as of October 23, 2013)

Court awards first human rights damages in wrongful dismissal case

This case is notable because it is the first time an Ontario court has awarded damages in a wrongful dismissal case for a violation of human rights, under powers granted in 2008 amendments to the Ontario Human Rights Code.

Fight instigator terminated, others involved let off

Despite a zero-tolerance for fighting policy, an employee who was fired for starting an altercation with co-workers was terminated while the others went unpunished. An Alberta labour arbitrator accepted that the termination was reasonable. The others avoided getting drawn into the fight.
