Remote work arrangements have become increasingly popular since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Employees have embraced this workplace flexibility and have been permitted to work in various locations, including outside of Ontario. Accordingly, we review the several practical and legal implications associated with working from home outside Ontario.
Considering Ontario’s ongoing shutdowns of non-essential businesses and the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, working from home has become common across the province and beyond. Work from home has taken off in many businesses that have never attempted to implement a work from home policy previously.
“Tattleware” or software that somehow tracks employees’ actions has seen a rise in popularity (thank you pandemic) and recently been in the news after an Alberta woman was fired after refusing to download an app that would allow her employer to tell when she was at work.
